What Happens at an Injury Clinic Visit

An injury visit has four parts: a history of what happened, a physical exam, a treatment plan, and documentation of what was found.

History

The provider asks how the injury happened and what you have felt since. Mention every symptom, including the minor ones.

Exam

Range of motion, tenderness, strength, sensation and reflexes are checked for the injured areas.

Plan

You should leave knowing what was found, what treatment is recommended and how often to return.

Documentation

Each visit is written up. Those notes are your medical record of the injury and how it changed over time.

Common questions

How long is the first visit?

Longer than a follow-up, because it includes the history and full exam. Ask the office for an estimate.

Do I pay at the visit?

Accident patients are seen with no upfront cost. Staff can explain how billing applies to you before you are seen.
